Roof spaces are warm, dry and quiet, which makes them a good home for bees. Around North Lakes, bees often get in under loose ridge capping, through gaps where the roof meets the eaves, past damaged tiles or through a roof vent. Once inside, they can build comb between rafters or in the eave lining.
You might see bees gathering at one spot along the roofline, or hear buzzing in the ceiling. Sometimes a honey stain shows on the ceiling below. Metal roofs can have bees too, often under the flashing or through gaps in the fascia. The crew we book checks the roofline from the ground and then from a ladder or inside the roof space. They look for the entry and try to work out how big the comb is. Getting to it may mean lifting some tiles, taking down a section of eave lining or working from the manhole. They explain the options before they start, and lifted tiles are put back once the job is done. The visit may include:
- Finding the gap the bees use to get in
- Lifting tiles or opening eave lining, with your okay
- Removing bees, comb and honey from the roof space
- Cleaning up wax and honey on timber and insulation
- Sealing the entry and pointing out other gaps
